What. A plumber brings clean water into a building under pressure and takes waste out by gravity, without ever letting the two meet. Public health is a plumbing achievement.

Tools. Pipe wrenches, press tool, PEX crimper, torch and solder, tubing cutter, threader, level, drain camera, the code book.

A day. Rough-in: drill, hang, slope the drain a quarter inch per foot, vent it, test it with water or air. Trim-out: set fixtures, connect, check for leaks. Service calls: find the clog, the leak, the failed water heater.

Pay. Roughly $40k entry to $80k licensed; master plumbers who run shops earn more.

Path. Universal core → drainage, waste and vent → water supply → fixtures → gas piping → code → backflow. Credentials: NCCER Plumbing L1–4, ASSE Backflow, state journeyman license.
