EMT

What. An emergency medical technician is the first medical professional to reach a sick or injured person, and the one who keeps them alive to the hospital door.

Tools. Stretcher, oxygen, bag-valve mask, AED, splints, tourniquets, blood-pressure cuff, pulse oximeter, glucometer, radio, the protocol book.

A day. Check the truck at shift change. Answer the call. Size up the scene: is it safe? Assess airway, breathing, circulation. Treat what can be treated. Lift, load, transport, report. Clean the truck. Write the chart. Next call.

Pay. Roughly $32k entry to $50k; paramedics earn more; firefighter-EMTs follow fire department scales.

Path. Universal core → anatomy → patient assessment → airway → trauma → medical emergencies → clinical and field rides. Credentials: NREMT EMT, then NREMT Paramedic.
