The chart. Projected average openings per year, U.S., 2023–2033, rounded, for selected trades the school teaches.

Why so many? Openings are not only new jobs. Most come from workers who retire or change occupations and must be replaced.

Electricians: about 80,000 a year. Carpenters, plumbers, HVAC/R technicians, welders, automotive technicians: tens of thousands each. Nursing assistants: well over 100,000.

Growth vs replacement. A trade with slow growth can still have many openings because its workforce is large and older.

The question for the visitor. If 1 in 10 workers in a trade leaves each year, how many new people does a city of 1,000 electricians need?
