Program: Construction (general)
The chart. A staircase: an apprentice's hourly wage as a share of the journeyworker rate, step by step over four or five years.
Typical pattern. Start near 40–50 percent of the journeyworker rate. Raise every six months or year as hours and classes are completed. Reach 100 percent at journey level.
What the apprentice gets. A paycheck, supervised work, classroom instruction, and a nationally recognised credential at the end.
What the employer gets. A trained worker who knows its methods, its safety culture and its customers.
The question for the visitor. Add up the steps. How much does an apprentice earn over four years? What would four years of tuition have cost?
Figures rounded. Sources and the current editions are listed in the reading behind the QR.
