Program: CNC Machining
1. Need. A pump on a ship needs a new shaft; the old one is worn.
2. Measure. A machinist or inspector measures the old part with micrometers or a scanner.
3. Draw. A drafter models it in CAD and adds tolerances: how far from perfect is still perfect.
4. Program. CAM software turns the model into toolpaths; a programmer writes or checks the G-code.
5. Set up. The CNC machinist loads stock, tools and offsets, and proves the program slowly.
6. Cut. The lathe or mill removes everything that is not the part.
7. Inspect. Calipers, micrometers, gauges, a coordinate-measuring machine.
8. Install. The industrial maintenance tech or marine mechanic fits it and runs the pump.
Every manufactured object in this room started as a drawing and ended as a measurement.
