Objective. Students review and accurately explain the high-weight exam domains for the Microsoft DP-300 and DAMA CDMP Associate credentials, practicing scenario-based and concept-based questions that match each exam's published format.
This lesson, its worked examples and its practice questions has not yet been verified by an industry-certified professional or by a certification or approval body. It is a study draft and may contain errors. Do not use it as instructions for work on a job site or on live equipment. Always follow your instructor, your supervising professional, and current official references and regulations.
VoTechWorks program approval and accreditation are still in progress. Credentials are issued only by the certifying bodies named in each program, after their own exams.
Both the Microsoft DP-300 (Administering Relational Databases on Microsoft Azure) and the DAMA CDMP Associate exams test a defined set of knowledge areas that Microsoft and DAMA International publish in official skills outlines. Studying those outlines directly—rather than reviewing topics at random—is the most efficient way to close gaps before exam day. This lesson maps the highest-weight domains for each credential and shows you how to work through them systematically.

Planning and Implementing Database Deployments on Azure
The DP-300 expects you to choose the right Azure SQL deployment option for a given scenario. The three main options are Azure SQL Database (a fully managed PaaS service), Azure SQL Managed Instance (PaaS with near-complete SQL Server compatibility, including SQL Server Agent and cross-database queries), and SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machine (IaaS, giving you full OS and engine control). Scenario questions often hinge on a specific feature—such as linked servers or CLR integration—that requires Managed Instance or a VM rather than Azure SQL Database.
Configuring and Managing Security
DP-300 security questions cover four mechanisms you must distinguish:
Know what each control protects and at what layer (storage, network, query result, identity).
Monitoring and Optimizing Operational Resources
Query Store captures query plans and runtime statistics over time, allowing you to identify plan regressions and force a known-good plan. Wait statistics categorize where SQL Server spends time waiting (CPU, I/O, locks, network), pointing you toward the right remediation. Index maintenance—reorganize for moderate fragmentation, rebuild for high fragmentation—reduces I/O cost. Intelligent Query Processing (IQP) is a family of features introduced in compatibility level 150 and later that includes adaptive joins, memory grant feedback, and table variable deferred compilation.

The DAMA CDMP Associate exam is based on the DAMA-DMBOK2: Data Management Body of Knowledge, Second Edition. Questions test conceptual understanding of knowledge areas rather than hands-on tool skills.
Data Governance
Data governance establishes accountability for data assets through defined roles (Data Owner, Data Steward, Data Custodian), policies, and decision-making processes. A Data Steward is responsible for day-to-day quality and compliance of a data domain; a Data Owner holds business accountability. Governance programs require executive sponsorship and a data governance council or equivalent body.
Data Quality
DAMA-DMBOK2 defines dimensions of data quality that commonly include completeness, consistency, accuracy, timeliness, validity, and uniqueness. Data profiling analyzes source data to measure these dimensions before loading or integration. Remediation corrects or quarantines records that fail quality rules.
Data Modeling and Design
Three model levels matter for the exam: conceptual (business entities and relationships, no technical detail), logical (normalized attributes and keys, database-platform independent), and physical (actual table and column definitions, indexes, partitioning, optimized for a specific engine). Entity-relationship notation and normalization through third normal form are testable topics.
Reference and Master Data Management
Reference data is a set of permissible values used to classify other data (e.g., country codes, product categories). Master data represents the core business entities shared across systems (customers, products, locations). Master Data Management (MDM) establishes a single authoritative source—a golden record—for each master entity.
Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence
A data warehouse integrates historical data from multiple sources for analytical reporting. Key design patterns include the star schema (fact table surrounded by dimension tables) and the snowflake schema (normalized dimensions). ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) and ELT pipelines move and transform data from operational sources into the warehouse.
Metadata Management
Metadata is data about data. Business metadata describes meaning and context (data definitions, business rules). Technical metadata describes structure (schemas, lineage, data types). Operational metadata tracks process execution (job run times, row counts). A data catalog surfaces metadata to users for discovery and governance.

When using Azure portal accounts or shared lab environments, protect credentials: never store passwords in plain text, log out after each session, and do not deploy resources that incur costs beyond your free-tier allocation. For exam preparation, use only officially licensed practice materials. Reproducing or distributing live exam questions violates exam provider agreements and can result in permanent credential revocation for all parties involved.
---
During the timed 50-question mixed set, treat each incorrect answer as a research task: find the exact source passage (a Microsoft Learn page, a DAMA-DMBOK2 chapter, or an official docs page), then write one sentence in your own words. This retrieval-plus-elaboration technique builds durable recall far more reliably than re-reading alone.
Answer each question, then check it. Nothing is recorded; this is your own practice.

Does the school offer financial aid?
No. We don’t offer financial aid because we’re free. No, really: completely free.
Do you offer industry certification?
No. We are not certified yet, so we can’t offer that to students. What we do offer is knowledge and understanding of a trade.
Enroll first in the trade you’re interested in. You get your key, your program opens, and you begin studying.
