Full Mock Exams and Final Readiness Review
Objective. Students will complete full-length, timed mock exams for all three credentials under proctored conditions and use scored results to confirm readiness or complete focused last-mile remediation before sitting live exams.
⚠ Pending professional review
This lesson, its worked examples and its practice questions has not yet been verified by a licensed engineer or certified journey-level tradesperson or by a certification or approval body. It is a study draft and may contain errors. Do not use it as instructions for work on a job site or on live equipment. Always follow your instructor, your supervising professional, and current official references and regulations.
VoTechWorks program approval and accreditation are still in progress. Credentials are issued only by the certifying bodies named in each program, after their own exams.
Full Mock Exams and Final Readiness Review
This is the capstone lesson of your certification preparation. By the end of it you will have sat full-length, timed mock exams for all three credentials—Autodesk Certified User (ACU), Autodesk Certified Professional (ACP), and Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA)—under conditions that mirror the real testing environment as closely as possible. Scored results will either confirm that you are ready to sit the live exams or will direct you toward specific, targeted remediation before you do.
Why Mock Exams Under Proctored Conditions Matter
Practicing in a relaxed setting with notes nearby is useful early in a course. At this stage it can mask real gaps. The moment you close your references, start the clock, and commit your answers, your actual command of the material becomes visible. Research in professional certification training consistently shows that full-length practice tests under realistic conditions are the single most reliable predictor of live-exam performance. They also train the mental stamina you need: the ACU and ACP exams each require sustained focus, and the CSWA can run up to three hours of hands-on SolidWorks work.
Mock Exam Block 1 — ACU and ACP AutoCAD
Block 1 is a single day session. You will sit the ACU AutoCAD mock exam first, then move directly into the ACP AutoCAD mock exam. Both are delivered through GMetrix or an equivalent Certiport-approved practice platform.
Exam conditions that apply:
- No notes, printed or digital.
- No open browser tabs other than the exam platform itself.
- No dual monitors—one screen only, matching the Certiport testing center setup.
- The instructor acts as proctor, enforces official time limits, and does not answer content questions during the exam.
The ACU tests foundational AutoCAD skills: interface navigation, basic draw and modify commands, annotation, layers, and file management. The ACP goes deeper into the same software, testing efficiency, advanced tools, and the ability to solve multi-step production drafting problems quickly and accurately. Sitting them back-to-back on the same day is intentional: it builds endurance and makes the live-exam day feel familiar.
When the platform generates your score report, do not close it. Print it or screenshot it. You will need it for your individual debrief.
Mock Exam Block 2 — CSWA
Block 2 is a separate session. You will sit a full CSWA mock exam using the SolidWorks Certification Center sample exam or an instructor-authored equivalent, timed to match the official exam duration.
The CSWA is a hands-on exam. Most questions require you to build or edit a part or assembly in SolidWorks and then answer questions based on mass properties—mass, volume, center of mass coordinates, or moment of inertia—that SolidWorks calculates for you. Accuracy depends entirely on modeling the geometry correctly before you evaluate properties.
Critical procedure: Record every mass-property answer on the printed answer sheet provided. Write the value SolidWorks reports, including units. Submit the answer sheet to the instructor at the end of the session. The instructor grades it against the answer key. This paper record matters because it creates a traceable document of your pre-exam performance.
Save your SolidWorks part and assembly files in the folder your instructor designates. These files may be reviewed during your debrief if an answer is incorrect, allowing the instructor to pinpoint exactly where the model went wrong.
Individual Readiness Debrief
After both mock exam blocks, your instructor will meet with you one-on-one for 15 minutes. Bring your score reports. The instructor will:
1. Review your performance domain by domain across all three credentials.
2. Identify any area where your score falls below the passing threshold.
3. Prescribe a specific self-study task for each identified gap—not a general suggestion, but a named exercise, help-file topic, or practice problem set.
4. Issue a written readiness sign-off form if your scores meet or exceed the passing threshold for each credential.
Passing thresholds for ACU, ACP, and CSWA are set by Autodesk and Dassault Systèmes respectively. Your instructor communicated those thresholds at the start of the program. They are not set by the school.
If you are below threshold on any mock exam, you will complete a documented two-hour remediation session focused exclusively on your gap domains, then make one additional targeted re-attempt before the instructor issues a readiness sign-off. You do not sit the live exam until the sign-off is issued. This protects your exam fees and your time.
Lab Safety and Professional Conduct
This session takes place in the CAD lab. Standard lab rules apply:
- No food or drinks near workstations.
- Report any hardware or software malfunction to the instructor immediately—do not attempt to restart or repair equipment yourself during a timed session.
- If a workstation fails during a mock exam, the instructor will note the elapsed time and resume the exam on a replacement workstation, crediting the lost time.
Because this is a proctored environment, academic integrity rules are strictly in force. Sharing answers, accessing unauthorized materials, or using a second device constitutes exam misconduct. The same rules apply on live exam day at the Certiport testing center. Misconduct at the testing center can result in score cancellation and a ban from future Certiport exams.
Final Mindset
A mock exam score below threshold is information, not failure. It tells you exactly where to spend your last study hours. Treat the debrief conversation as a professional consultation: listen, take notes, and execute the remediation plan. Students who complete structured remediation and a targeted re-attempt before their live exam consistently perform better than those who sit the live exam on a first attempt without that feedback loop.

Worked examples4
1. You are modeling a SolidWorks part for a CSWA mock question. The question states the part is made of 1060 Alloy aluminum with a density of 0.0027 g/mm³. Your finished model shows a volume of 48,500 mm³ in the Mass Properties dialog. What mass should SolidWorks report, in grams, and what should you write on your answer sheet?
- Step 1 — Identify the values. Density = 0.0027 g/mm³; Volume = 48,500 mm³.
- Step 2 — Apply the mass formula: Mass = Density × Volume.
- Step 3 — Calculate: Mass = 0.0027 g/mm³ × 48,500 mm³ = 130.95 g.
- Step 4 — Verify by reading the Mass Properties dialog in SolidWorks; it should display approximately 130.95 g if the material is assigned correctly.
- Step 5 — Write '130.95 grams' on the printed answer sheet and submit it to the instructor.
Answer: Mass = 130.95 g. Write this value with units on the answer sheet.
2. A CSWA assembly question asks for the center of mass X-coordinate. SolidWorks reports X = 47.38 mm. The answer choices given are 47.38 mm, 47.83 mm, 43.78 mm, and 4.738 mm. Which do you select, and what is the most likely cause of each wrong answer?
- Step 1 — Read the Mass Properties dialog carefully for the X value: 47.38 mm.
- Step 2 — Match to answer choices. 47.38 mm matches exactly.
- Step 3 — Analyze distractors: 47.83 mm is a digit-transposition error (3 and 8 swapped); 43.78 mm is another transposition; 4.738 mm results from misreading mm as cm and shifting the decimal.
- Step 4 — Select 47.38 mm and record it on the answer sheet with units.
Answer: 47.38 mm. The correct answer matches the exact value shown in the SolidWorks Mass Properties dialog.
3. During your ACU mock exam debrief, your score report shows you earned 68% on the Annotation domain. The ACU passing threshold communicated at program start is 70% overall (thresholds are set by Autodesk). Your overall score was 74%. What does this domain result mean for your readiness, and what targeted action should you take?
- Step 1 — Determine overall pass/fail: 74% overall is at or above the 70% threshold, so you passed the mock exam overall.
- Step 2 — Identify the domain weakness: Annotation at 68% is below average and suggests gaps in text styles, dimension styles, tolerances, or leaders.
- Step 3 — Report the domain score to the instructor during your debrief so a specific self-study task can be prescribed for the Annotation domain.
- Step 4 — Complete the prescribed task (e.g., a targeted GMetrix Annotation practice set) before the live exam, even though you passed the mock overall.
- Step 5 — Confirm with the instructor that the remediation task is logged on your readiness sign-off form.
Answer: You passed the mock exam overall (74% ≥ 70%), but the 68% Annotation domain score is a flag. Complete the instructor-prescribed annotation remediation before the live exam to close that gap.
4. Your CSWA mock exam answer sheet shows a part mass of 215.40 g. The answer key shows 251.40 g. You saved your SolidWorks file. What troubleshooting steps should you take in the debrief to find the modeling error?
- Step 1 — Open the saved SolidWorks part file.
- Step 2 — Check Edit Material: confirm the correct alloy is applied and density matches the question specification.
- Step 3 — Measure key dimensions in the model using Smart Dimension or the Measure tool and compare to the question drawing.
- Step 4 — Look for a missed feature or an incorrect dimension: a common error is modeling a cutout depth of 15 mm instead of a specified 51 mm, which reduces volume and therefore mass.
- Step 5 — Correct the dimension or feature, regenerate the model, and re-evaluate Mass Properties to confirm the corrected mass is 251.40 g.
- Step 6 — Note the error type on your remediation log so you can avoid it on the live exam.
Answer: The mass error (215.40 g vs. 251.40 g) is most likely caused by a transposed dimension or incorrect feature depth. Verify material assignment and all critical dimensions against the question drawing, then regenerate.
The math in this lesson2
Learners compare a 68 percent domain score with the passing threshold.
7.RP.3G-MG.2
In class: Proctored mock exam block 1: students sit a full ACU AutoCAD mock exam followed immediately by a full ACP AutoCAD mock exam on the same day, using Certiport GMetrix or equivalent practice platform with all aids restricted to those permitted in the real exam (no notes, no open browser); the instructor acts as proctor and enforces the official time limits. · Proctored mock exam block 2 (separate session): students sit a full CSWA mock exam using the SolidWorks Certification Center sample exam or instructor-authored equivalent, timed to match the official exam duration; students record mass-property answers on a separate answer sheet that is submitted to the instructor for grading against the answer key. · Individual readiness debrief: instructor meets one-on-one with each student for 15 minutes, reviews all three mock exam score reports, identifies any remaining domain gaps, prescribes a specific self-study task for each gap, and issues a written readiness sign-off form when the student meets passing thresholds—students not yet at threshold receive a structured two-hour remediation session before the live exam date.
Materials: GMetrix or Certiport practice platform licenses; SolidWorks Certification Center sample exam files; exam-day workstation setup (no dual monitors, no external references); printed answer sheets for CSWA mass-property recording; instructor readiness sign-off form; quiet, controlled lab environment.
Check: Students must score at or above the published passing threshold for each respective credential on the mock exam (ACU, ACP, and CSWA passing scores are set by Autodesk and Dassault Systèmes respectively and communicated to students at program start); any student below threshold on a mock exam completes a documented remediation session and one additional targeted re-attempt before the instructor issues the readiness sign-off.
