Objective. Students will complete two full-length mock credentialing exams under realistic timed conditions and use score reports to confirm readiness or complete final targeted remediation before the official exam date.
This lesson, its worked examples and its practice questions has not yet been verified by a licensed clinician in the field or by a certification or approval body. It is a study draft and may contain errors. Do not use it to make decisions about any patient or medication. Always follow your instructor, your supervising professional, and current official references and regulations.
VoTechWorks program approval and accreditation are still in progress. Credentials are issued only by the certifying bodies named in each program, after their own exams.
This lesson is the final checkpoint before you sit your official credentialing exams. Two full-length mock examinations and a live CPR/First Aid skill check give you the most realistic preview possible of what exam day will feel like. Your scores here do not count toward your credential, but they tell you — and your instructor — whether you are ready. Take every question and every skill station as seriously as you will on the real day.
Mock Exam 1 is 100 multiple-choice questions drawn from all VoTechWorks PT Aide Certificate blueprint domains. These domains include anatomy and physiology fundamentals, patient rights and professional scope of practice, infection control and safety, therapeutic exercise and functional activity assistance, body mechanics and patient transfers, equipment care and preparation, documentation basics, and emergency response.
The exam is timed to match actual exam conditions. No notes, no phones, no textbooks. Use only a pencil and your standardized answer sheet. Your instructor will announce the start and end times. Work at a steady pace — skip questions that stump you and return to them before time is called.
As soon as time is called, your instructor will score your answer sheet. You will then compare your score to the diagnostic heat map you completed earlier in this course. Look for three things: (1) which domains you have improved in, (2) which domains still show gaps, and (3) whether your overall score meets or exceeds 80%.
The 30-minute CPR/First Aid skill check uses the official American Heart Association or American Red Cross performance criteria checklists. Your instructor acts as a trained evaluator — not a coach. You will not receive prompts or hints during the check. You must demonstrate each skill from start to finish on your own.
Skills evaluated include:
Critical errors — such as failure to call for help, incorrect compression depth that would be dangerous on a real patient, or delivering a shock without clearing bystanders — result in an automatic failure of that station. Safety is the reason these criteria exist. A poorly performed CPR intervention on a real patient is worse than no intervention because it can cause further harm.
If you scored below 80% on Mock Exam 1, you will complete a focused 30-minute instructor-led review targeting your single lowest-scoring domain before sitting Mock Exam 2. This is not a repeat lecture; it is targeted problem-solving. Bring your scored answer sheet. Your instructor will walk through the logic behind each item type in that domain, clarify misconceptions, and give you two or three high-priority concepts to hold in mind during Mock Exam 2.
Students who scored 80% or above on Mock Exam 1 take a minimum one-hour break (or begin Mock Exam 2 at the next class session) to reset mentally.
Mock Exam 2 is a parallel form of Mock Exam 1 — the same number of questions, the same domain weighting, the same timed conditions — but different items. Scoring 80% or higher on Mock Exam 2 is the benchmark that confirms you are ready for the official VoTechWorks PT Aide Certificate exam.
If you do not reach 80% on Mock Exam 2, your instructor will schedule a mandatory remediation conference with you before the official exam date. This conference is not a punishment — it is a final safety net to protect your chances of passing the real exam on your first attempt.
All students complete the exam-readiness checklist after Mock Exam 2. This checklist covers:
As you prepare for your exams, anchor every answer choice in these principles:
1. Scope of practice is a safety issue. An aide who exceeds scope — by adjusting a patient's exercise intensity without instruction, for example — can cause direct patient harm.
2. When in doubt, stop and report. Any unexpected change in a patient's condition requires you to stop the task and notify the supervising PT or PTA immediately.
3. CPR skill decay is real. The AHA and Red Cross require periodic renewal of CPR certification because skills degrade without practice. Keep your card current after you earn it.
4. Standard precautions apply every time. Hand hygiene and appropriate personal protective equipment are not optional — they protect both you and the patient.
Answer each question, then check it. Nothing is recorded; this is your own practice.
